Whatever your goal, your dream or your ambition, together we can make it happen.
How we teach
At International House Beirut we want you to achieve your full potential by being motivated and actively involved in your own studies. Our teaching style encourages regular practical use of your new language skills with fellow students; becoming more confident when speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Our teachers
IH Beirut’s teachers are here to offer you guidance on how to improve your language skills. Our teachers are all qualified teachers, knowledgeable about their subject and able to answer any questions that you may have. All members of staff genuinely care about your progress and respect your opinions.
Our classes
Our average class size is 12 students, however lower level classes tend to attract more students and higher levels less. Your teachers are trained to work with classes of all sizes and will make sure your learning is maximized, no matter the size of your group. Lessons are intensive and task based; typical activities may include roles plays, pair work with a fellow student and class discussions based on texts. You can also supplement your class learning with one-to-one tuition.
We cater for a range of different levels of language ability. You can take an online test, which gives a good indicator of your level, or come to IH Beirut and take the test here. Before joining class at IH Beirut we will also give you a speaking test to ensure that you are studying with students of a similar level. The levels break down as follows and are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Beginner – You have no previous knowledge of the language.
- Elementary – Basic communication is possible with assistance and you understand simple sentences when spoken slowly and clearly.

- Intermediate – You can make effective and independent use of the language in familiar situations although there may be lapses in communication.
- Low Upper-intermediate – You make effective and independent use of the language in a range of situations but may still encounter lapses in communication.
- High Upper-intermediate – Your use of the language is consistent and usually appropriate but lapses in fluency and accuracy occur in complex situations.
